After an early breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi, you will depart for Mount Kenya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Africa’s second-highest mountain. The drive takes you through the scenic central highlands of Kenya, passing through fertile farmlands, small towns, and beautiful landscapes that offer a glimpse into rural Kenyan life.
Upon arrival at the park gate, you will complete registration formalities before beginning your trek. The trail starts in dense rainforest, where you may spot monkeys, colorful birds, and unique plant species. As you gradually ascend, the forest gives way to bamboo zones and eventually to more open vegetation. The pace of the trek is steady and designed to help your body begin acclimatizing to the altitude.
After several hours of hiking, you will reach the bandas, which are simple but comfortable mountain huts located in a peaceful natural setting. Here, you can relax, enjoy the cool mountain air, and take in the surrounding scenery. Your support team will prepare a warm and nourishing meal for dinner. Spend the evening resting and preparing for the next day’s trek.

After breakfast, you will continue your Mount Kenya trekking journey, leaving the forested areas behind and entering the beautiful moorland zone. This section of the trek offers expansive views of rolling hills, deep valleys, and the distant peaks of Mount Kenya. The trail gradually ascends, allowing for proper acclimatization while offering plenty of opportunities to stop, rest, and enjoy the scenery. Your guide will maintain a comfortable pace and provide insights into the mountain’s ecosystem, geology, and wildlife. The air becomes cooler and fresher as you gain altitude, creating a refreshing trekking experience.
By the afternoon, you will arrive at Lake Ellis, a serene high-altitude lake surrounded by stunning landscapes. The calm waters of the lake reflect the sky and nearby peaks, creating a peaceful and picturesque environment. This campsite is ideal for relaxation and acclimatization, helping your body adjust to the increasing altitude.

Today’s trek is often considered one of the most scenic and rewarding days of the Mount Kenya climb. After breakfast, you will continue your journey through rugged terrain, crossing ridges and descending into valleys that offer breathtaking views of the mountain’s dramatic landscape. The trail provides excellent opportunities for photography, with sweeping vistas and unique geological formations at every turn.As you progress, the sense of wilderness becomes more pronounced, and you will feel immersed in the untouched beauty of Mount Kenya. The trek requires moderate effort, but the stunning surroundings make every step worthwhile. Your guide will ensure a steady pace and provide support as you navigate the terrain.
Eventually, you will descend into a spectacular valley where Lake Michaelson is located. This hidden gem is surrounded by towering cliffs and offers a truly tranquil setting far from crowded routes. The campsite here is peaceful and provides a perfect environment to rest and recharge.

Your summit day begins very early, usually around midnight, as you prepare for the ascent to Point Lenana (4,985 meters). Hiking under the stars, you will follow your guide along a steady path toward the summit. Although challenging, the gradual pace and encouragement from your team will help you reach your goal.
Reaching the summit at sunrise is a truly unforgettable experience. As the sun rises over the African horizon, it illuminates the surrounding peaks, glaciers, and landscapes, creating a breathtaking view that makes the effort worthwhile. You will have time to take photos and celebrate your achievement before beginning the descent.
After the summit, you will descend carefully through alpine terrain, retracing part of your route while enjoying new perspectives of the mountain. The descent continues toward Old Moses Camp, where you will arrive in the afternoon.

The summit attempt usually starts before dawn. Breathing becomes more difficult, and trekkers may feel tired more quickly due to reduced oxygen levels.
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the lower slopes of Mount Kenya. The trail leads you back into the forest zone, where you can once again enjoy the rich biodiversity and peaceful surroundings. The descent is relatively gentle, allowing you to take in the last views of the mountain and appreciate the journey you have completed.
Upon reaching the park gate, you will complete exit formalities and meet your driver for the transfer back to Nairobi. The drive offers another opportunity to enjoy the scenic countryside and reflect on your adventure.
Depending on your travel plans, you will either be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight or dropped off at your hotel in Nairobi. This marks the end of your incredible Mount Kenya trekking experience, filled with unforgettable landscapes, personal achievement, and lasting memories.
