Day 1

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Machame Gate for registration and a comprehensive climb briefing from your mountain guides. Once formalities are completed, begin your trek through the lush rainforest zone. The trail winds through dense vegetation filled with towering trees, colorful flowers, and unique wildlife. As you gain altitude, enjoy spectacular views before reaching Machame Camp, where your crew will prepare dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Wake up to beautiful mountain views and enjoy breakfast before continuing your ascent. The trail leaves the rainforest behind and enters the moorland zone, where giant heathers and volcanic formations dominate the landscape. The climb gradually becomes steeper as you approach the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic regions. Upon arrival at Shira Camp, relax and admire panoramic views stretching across northern Tanzania.

Day 3

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

Today’s trek is crucial for acclimatization as you climb to Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. The route crosses an alpine desert environment characterized by volcanic rock formations and dramatic scenery. Reaching Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 meters helps your body adjust to higher elevations. After lunch, descend into the Barranco Valley, famous for its giant groundsels and spectacular views of the Barranco Wall.

Day 4

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, begin the day by tackling the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the Machame Route. Despite appearing intimidating, the climb is manageable and rewards hikers with incredible panoramic views. Continue across valleys and ridges before arriving at Karanga Camp around midday. The afternoon offers valuable time for rest, hydration, and optional acclimatization hikes to prepare for the higher elevations ahead.

Day 5

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today’s trek is shorter but very important as you approach the final base camp before the summit attempt. The trail passes through a rugged alpine desert landscape with magnificent views of Kibo Peak. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, enjoy an early lunch and spend the remainder of the day resting and preparing your equipment. Your guides will provide a summit briefing before an early night in preparation for the climb to Uhuru Peak.

Accommodation: Barafu Camp (4,600m)

Short acclimatization walk above camp if energy levels allow.

Day 6

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Shortly before midnight, begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Trek beneath a sky filled with stars as you gradually climb toward Stella Point on the crater rim. Witness a spectacular sunrise before continuing to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs, descend back to Barafu Camp for a brief rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for a well deserved dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7

Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha

After breakfast, enjoy your final descent through the rainforest zone toward Mweka Gate. Along the way, take in the rich vegetation and reflect on your incredible achievement of reaching Africa’s highest summit. At the gate, receive your official summit certificate before meeting your transfer vehicle. You will then drive back to Arusha or Moshi, where your Kilimanjaro adventure comes to a memorable conclusion.
